Though we want you to donate and help us create the awareness needed, we also think you should know why YesLiberia was founded.... So here it goes... Conviction created YesLiberia. Daily the needs of the underprivileged are ignored. We ignore their struggles because it's easier to deal with the more important things in our lives— like climbing the corporate ladder and saving money so we don't become indigent. And some of us ignore their challenges because they bring back unpleasant memories we seek to repress. Then certain things happen to remind us their struggles exist no matter how hard we try to pretend our needs surpass theirs.
The genocide in Rwanda reminded him of Liberia. The prostitution of children in Thailand reminded him of Liberia. The rape and war in The Congo reminded him of Liberia. The level of corruption in Somalia reminded him of Liberia. He remembered his underprivileged past—a past where he was seen as less than elite based on his tribal and economic status and where his education came as a gift and blessing from the United Methodist Church.
Reminded, he became convicted to act and YesLiberia was founded to educate and help underprivileged Liberians whose plight he intimately understood.
YesLiberia's vision is to transform Liberia by inspiring youth to be educated, fully engaged, and responsible in their communities and society. To achieve this, organization works to empower young people through meaningful service learning opportunities in education, healthcare, and technology.
We believe we can achieve our mission because: A) We think uniquely and practically understand the communities we serve. B) We believe in advocates, like you, who have experienced and live through some of the challenges we seek to resolve, not one time donors. C) We don't just talk about transparency and accountability, we practice it. D) We make partnering with us a simple process with mutual benefits to all parties.
